Second Sunday of Advent: The Promise of Peace

Second Sunday of Advent: The Promise of Peace

The Foretold Peace of the Messiah

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given… and his name shall be called… The Prince of Peace.”
— Isaiah 9:6

Centuries before Jesus was born, Isaiah announced the coming of a Savior whose identity would be rooted in peace. This prophecy reminds us that peace is not merely an idea—it is found in the Person of Christ.

Peace Announced at His Birth

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
— Luke 2:14

At Jesus’ birth, heaven proclaimed peace to all people. This peace is God’s gracious gift, not something we create on our own.

Peace for Troubled Hearts

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
— John 14:27

Christ offers a peace that steadies us in uncertainty and calms our fears. His peace is unlike anything the world can offer.

Peace Through Salvation

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
— Romans 5:1 (KJV)

Through Christ’s sacrifice, we have peace with God. This is the foundation of all true peace.

Living as People of Peace

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts.”
— Colossians 3:15 (KJV)

My invitation to you today is to walk in Christ’s peace:

· Peace in our relationships—choosing forgiveness and patience.

·  Peace in our minds—trusting God with the burdens we cannot carry alone.

·  Peace in our witness—showing a restless world the steadiness that comes from Christ.

in your relationships, thoughts, and witness to the world.

Closing Reflection

Advent reminds us that the peace we long for entered the world through Christ our Savior and will be fulfilled at His return. May the Prince of Peace fill your heart, and home this season.
